Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania Reaches Norway from Finland, Begins Two-Day Study Visit to Tromsø

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has reached Norway as part of his official study visit following his participation in the 69th Commonwealth International Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Continuing his official study tour, Pathania travelled from the famous Finnish city of Rovaniemi and reached Tromsø, Norway, on the evening of his arrival. He will stay in Tromsø for two days as part of his study visit programme.

Pathania will remain on his study visit to Norway until September 30, 2026, during which he is scheduled to visit several historic and prominent cities and places. The visit is aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the region's distinctive geographical, educational, environmental and research-related aspects.

Tromsø Known as the ‘Arctic Capital’

Located in the northern part of Norway, Tromsø is a beautiful and important city that is often referred to as the “Arctic Capital.” Situated considerably north of the Arctic Circle, the city is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, snowy surroundings, Northern Lights and rich cultural life.

Tromsø has emerged as an important attraction for tourists, researchers and nature enthusiasts from around the world. Its unique geographical location gives the city a distinct identity compared with other Norwegian cities and makes it particularly significant for understanding the Arctic region.

During winter, the sun remains below the horizon for an extended period in Tromsø, a phenomenon known as the Polar Night. In contrast, during summer, the sun does not set for several weeks. This spectacular natural phenomenon is known as the Midnight Sun. These unique Arctic conditions make Tromsø an important destination from the perspectives of tourism, scientific research, environmental studies and climate-related studies.

Important Centre for Education and Research

Tromsø is also an important centre for education and research. The city is home to the University of Tromsø–The Arctic University of Norway, which is well known for studies and research related to the Arctic region.

Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania is scheduled to visit the University of Tromsø during his study tour. He will interact with students from the Indian community and study the education system and academic practices prevailing there. The interaction is expected to provide an opportunity to understand the academic environment and educational approaches followed in the Arctic region.

During his study visit, Pathania will also hold discussions with academicians on several important subjects, including climate change, marine science, the environment and Arctic society. The discussions will provide an opportunity to gain insights into research and developments taking place in these areas, as well as the environmental and social challenges faced by the Arctic region.

The Norway leg of Pathania’s official study visit will also include visits to several historic and prominent places. The tour will provide an opportunity to study the region’s distinctive educational and research systems, environmental conditions and social characteristics, while gaining a broader understanding of developments in the Arctic region.
