Inner Wheel Club of Shimla Organizes Cleanliness Drive to Raise Awareness Among Students
Cleanliness and Hygiene Awareness Drive Held at CGPS Government Primary School, Mehli; Books and Stationery Distributed Among 172 Students
SHIMLA: Strengthening the national commitment towards building a clean and healthy India, the Inner Wheel Club of Shimla organized a comprehensive Cleanliness and Hygiene Awareness Drive at CGPS Government Primary School, Mehli, Shimla. The initiative focused on developing a sense of environmental responsibility among young students while encouraging them to adopt good personal hygiene and cleanliness practices in their daily lives.
The programme was led by Dr. Kusha Pandit Chawla, President of the Inner Wheel Club of Shimla, and Immediate Past President Nirupama Chaudhary. Teachers and school administration, students and members of the Inner Wheel Club participated enthusiastically in the cleanliness campaign.
As part of the drive, the participants collectively cleaned the school premises and the surrounding pathways. Plastic waste, wrappers and other non-biodegradable materials accumulated in and around the school premises were removed. Through the cleanliness activity, the participants conveyed a strong message about keeping public spaces, educational institutions and the surrounding environment clean and healthy.
With the objective of strengthening cleanliness arrangements at the school and providing better facilities to students, the Inner Wheel Club of Shimla also provided tat-patti and mats to the school. The material was sponsored by Namita Nag, Executive Member of the Club. The mats and tat-patti will particularly be used by students for sitting in a clean and comfortable manner during lunchtime.
In another significant initiative aimed at supporting education, the Club distributed books and stationery among all 172 students of the school. The educational material was sponsored by Ms. Neha Sharma. The initiative is expected to support students in their studies while encouraging their overall educational and personal development.
Along with the cleanliness activity, a special awareness session was also conducted for the students. During the session, students were educated about the importance of personal hygiene, the correct technique of washing hands and the harmful impact of single-use plastic on the environment. They were encouraged to remain conscious of cleanliness on a regular basis and make hygienic practices an integral part of their everyday routine.
The school was also provided with sanitizers as part of the initiative, further reinforcing the importance of maintaining proper hygiene and preventing the spread of infections.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kusha Pandit Chawla, President of the Inner Wheel Club of Shimla, said that meaningful and lasting change begins with the younger generation. She emphasized that by motivating students to keep their educational institutions and surrounding environment clean, a strong foundation can be laid for building a healthy, responsible and aware society.
The programme concluded with a collective cleanliness pledge taken by the students and school staff. Everyone pledged to maintain cleanliness not only within the school premises but also in the areas around them and to make cleanliness an essential part of their everyday lives.
The school administration appreciated the efforts being undertaken by the Inner Wheel Club of Shimla for the welfare of the community and expressed gratitude to the Club for organizing the initiative. The school authorities highlighted that such programmes play an important role in developing a sense of cleanliness, environmental protection and social responsibility among students.
The initiative by the Inner Wheel Club of Shimla thus combined cleanliness, hygiene awareness, environmental responsibility and educational support, providing students with both practical learning and essential educational resources.
