13-Member PIB Shimla Media Delegation Visits Siddheshwar Dham in Namchi; 108-Ft Lord Shiva Statue and Replicas of 12 Jyotirlingas Become Major Attractions
Namchi, Sikkim: As part of the Study and Experience Tour organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Shimla, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, a 13-member media delegation from PIB Shimla visited the renowned Siddheshwar Dham (Char Dham) located in Namchi, South Sikkim. During the visit, members of the media delegation explored the religious, spiritual and cultural significance of Siddheshwar Dham and observed the various religious sites and replicas established within the temple complex.
Situated on Solophok Hill, Siddheshwar Dham is among the prominent religious and tourist destinations of Sikkim. Surrounded by natural beauty, the dham attracts devotees as well as tourists from different parts of the country. One of the major attractions of the complex is the magnificent 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva. The towering statue stands prominently within the complex and draws the attention of devotees and visitors. Surrounding the massive statue are replicas of the country’s 12 major Jyotirlingas.
The 12 Jyotirlinga replicas established within the Siddheshwar Dham complex include Somnath, Mallikarjuna, Mahakaleshwar, Omkareshwar, Kedarnath, Bhimashankar, Kashi Vishwanath, Trimbakeshwar, Vaidyanath, Nageshwar, Rameshwar and Ghrishneshwar. Through these replicas, devotees get an opportunity to become familiar with the religious and spiritual traditions associated with some of India’s most important Shiva pilgrimage sites at a single location.
Another important feature of Siddheshwar Dham is the presence of replicas of the country’s four major Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Replicas of Badrinath, Jagannath, Dwarka and Rameshwaram have also been established within the complex. In this manner, Siddheshwar Dham brings together representations of several of India’s major religious and pilgrimage traditions within a single परिसर, giving the site a distinctive religious identity.
During the visit, the media delegation toured the temple complex and observed the विशाल statue of Lord Shiva, the replicas of the 12 Jyotirlingas and the four major Dhams. The delegation members also gathered information about the religious and cultural significance associated with Siddheshwar Dham and gained a closer understanding of Sikkim’s rich spiritual heritage.
The visit to Siddheshwar Dham during the Study and Experience Tour organized by PIB provided an important opportunity for the media representatives to explore the religious and cultural identity of Sikkim. Through the tour, the delegation experienced not only the natural beauty of the state but also its rich religious, spiritual and cultural heritage.
