Nofal Ek Umeed Celebrates Diwali with Needy Families, Spreads Light in Dark Homes by Distributing Solar Lights

Shimla: Diwali is not just a festival of lighting lamps and celebrating happiness; it is also an occasion to spread light, hope and joy in the lives of those who need it the most. Embracing this spirit of humanity and compassion, Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha celebrated Diwali this year with migrant workers and economically weaker families in Shimla. Under the leadership of the organization's President, Gurmeet Singh, the team visited underprivileged and migrant families living in Baluganj, Bangla Colony and the Tutu-Tutikandi Crossing area to share the joy and happiness of the festival.

As part of this special initiative, solar lights were distributed among needy families to ensure that homes and temporary shelters that often remain in darkness at night could have access to light. The initiative brought smiles to the faces of several families and made their Diwali celebrations more meaningful.

The members of the organization spent time with the families, exchanged festive greetings and shared the spirit of togetherness. Special attention was also given to children. Sweets, firecrackers, sparklers, traditional earthen lamps (diyas) and candles were distributed so that children from financially weaker families could also celebrate Diwali with enthusiasm, excitement and happiness.

Solar Lights Bring Relief and Brightness to Needy Homes

The distribution of solar lights was the most significant part of this year's Diwali campaign. Many economically weaker families face difficulties arranging proper lighting facilities in their homes during the night. For such families, solar lights are not merely a festive gift but a useful facility that can make their daily lives easier.

After receiving the lights, families expressed happiness and gratitude, saying that they would no longer have to face the same difficulties due to darkness at night.

Speaking on the occasion, Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha President Gurmeet Singh said that Diwali is the festival of lights, and there can be no greater happiness than bringing light into the home of someone in need. He said that instead of limiting the initiative to the distribution of traditional festive items, the organization made a conscious effort to understand the actual needs of families and provide them with useful resources.

He further said that Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha had also visited these families last year and celebrated Diwali with them. During those interactions, the team got an opportunity to understand their difficulties and requirements closely. One of the major concerns highlighted by the families was the lack of proper lighting arrangements at night. Keeping this problem in mind, the organization decided to distribute solar lights this year.

Support Planned According to the Needs Identified Last Year

Gurmeet Singh said that during last year's visit, the organization had learned about the families' requirements for essential items such as ration supplies, pressure cookers and lights. Since then, the organization has continued making efforts to understand their circumstances and extend assistance according to its capacity.

He emphasized that social service should not be limited to helping people on a particular occasion. Instead, genuine social responsibility means understanding the actual problems faced by needy families and making consistent efforts to address them. With this vision, the organization's team regularly reaches out to underprivileged families to understand their requirements and explore ways to support them.

Extending his heartfelt greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh and the country on Chhoti Diwali and the upcoming Diwali celebrations, Gurmeet Singh said that Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. He added that the true message of the festival is to strengthen the values of love, brotherhood, harmony and humanity in society.

He said that bringing a smile to the face of a needy person and illuminating a home that otherwise remains in darkness is one of the greatest ways to celebrate Diwali.

Solar Lights Bring Smiles to the Faces of Families

The distribution of solar lights generated considerable excitement among migrant worker families. Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Gurmeet Singh and the entire team of Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha for their thoughtful initiative.

Sugna, who belongs to Rajasthan, expressed her happiness and said that this year's Diwali had become particularly special for her family. She said that receiving a solar light had brought her immense joy. Earlier, her home used to remain dark at night, but now the solar light would provide much-needed convenience to her family. She thanked the organization for understanding their difficulties and extending such meaningful support.

Another woman shared that her family previously had to spend nights in darkness, which often created difficulties, especially for the children. However, after receiving a solar light from the organization, their home would now have proper illumination. She said that the light was not just a gift but an important facility that would make their everyday lives easier. She also wished Gurmeet Singh and his team happiness, prosperity and success.

Migrant Families Earn Their Livelihood by Making and Selling Brooms

During the interaction, several migrant workers shared that they earn their livelihood by making and selling brooms. Due to their financially challenging circumstances, meeting the everyday needs of their families is often difficult. Purchasing sweets, firecrackers and other festive items for their children during Diwali can also become a challenge.

In such circumstances, the distribution of sweets, firecrackers, sparklers, diyas and candles by the organization brought special excitement to the children. They happily received the festive items, while their families expressed gratitude to the organization for making their celebrations memorable.

The migrant workers said that Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha had not only shared festive essentials with them but had also made them feel respected and valued. They said that it was encouraging to know that there are people and organizations in society who understand their circumstances and stand beside them during difficult times.

A Message of Social Responsibility Beyond Festivals

Gurmeet Singh said that the objective of Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha is not limited to organizing activities during festivals. The organization aims to reach those sections of society that are economically weaker and require access to basic facilities.

He assured that the organization would remain connected with these families in the future as well and continue making efforts to understand their problems and provide all possible assistance.

He said that meaningful change in society is possible only when people who are capable of helping stand alongside those in need. Even a small facility provided to a needy family can bring a significant improvement to their daily lives. The distribution of solar lights during Diwali was also guided by this very thought.

The initiative by Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha emerged as a heartwarming example of humanity, compassion, social service and community support. By distributing solar lights, the organization brought brightness into homes that often remain in darkness, while the distribution of sweets, firecrackers, sparklers, diyas and candles added happiness to the celebrations of children.

The initiative conveyed a powerful message that the true joy of Diwali does not lie merely in decorating and illuminating our own homes, but in reaching out to those homes where darkness prevails due to a lack of resources.

By celebrating Diwali with needy and migrant worker families, Nofal Ek Umeed Sanstha demonstrated that even a small act of kindness can bring immense happiness, dignity and a new ray of hope into someone's life.
