AAP to Gherao Himachal Assembly in Dharamshala on November 20 Over Alleged Failure to Fulfil Guarantees
Manish Sisodia to Lead Massive Protest; AAP Seeks Accountability from Sukhu Government Over Poll Promises
Dharamshala: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Himachal Pradesh is set to launch a major public movement against the Congress government over what it describes as the alleged failure to fulfil promises and guarantees made to the people during the Assembly elections. The party will organise a “Vidhan Sabha Gherao” (Assembly Gherao) in Dharamshala on November 20 (Friday) afternoon, demanding an account of the commitments made by the Congress government to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
According to the Aam Aadmi Party, the Congress had made several major promises to the people of Himachal Pradesh during the Assembly elections by replicating the welfare-oriented guarantees associated with the governments led by Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi and Punjab. However, the party alleges that after coming to power, the Congress government has failed to fulfil its promises and guarantees.
The AAP has alleged that the alleged failure of the Congress government to deliver on its electoral commitments has left various sections of society, including youth, women, farmers and employees, feeling betrayed. The party has decided to intensify its campaign against the government through the proposed Assembly Gherao in Dharamshala.
Manish Sisodia to Lead Protest
The Aam Aadmi Party said that the massive protest will be led by senior party leader, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and the architect of the “Education Revolution”, Manish Sisodia. According to the party, Sisodia will reach Himachal Pradesh to raise the voice of the people and seek direct accountability from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s government over the promises made during the elections.
The AAP state leadership alleged that the Congress had copied the model associated with Arvind Kejriwal and made several guarantees to the people, but lacked the intention and policy required to fulfil them after coming to power. The party has questioned when the people of Himachal Pradesh will finally receive an account of the promises and guarantees made to them during the elections.
Appeal to People to Join Dharamshala Protest
The Aam Aadmi Party has appealed to the people of Himachal Pradesh, party workers, supporters, youth, farmers and labourers to participate in large numbers in the proposed public movement in Dharamshala on November 20.
The party said that the Assembly Gherao would be used as a platform to put pressure on the state government to fulfil the promises made to the people and provide accountability over its electoral guarantees.
The AAP has called upon the people of the state to join the protest under the slogan:
“Chalo Dharamshala… Gherao the Assembly! Now the people will ask—When will they get an account of the promises?”
