Second Multidisciplinary Committee Meeting for Luhri Hydroelectric Project Stage-I Successfully Held
Shimla, September , 2026: The second Multidisciplinary Committee (2nd MDC) meeting concerning the Luhri Hydroelectric Project Stage-I was successfully held on September 30, 2026, under the chairmanship of Shri Sanjay Sood, Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Himachal Pradesh. The meeting primarily focused on reviewing and monitoring the effective implementation of prescribed environmental safeguards related to environmental aspects during the construction phase of the project.
The meeting was attended by 14 departmental members of the 15-member committee constituted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Detailed discussions were held on the progress of 13 subjects identified under the Environmental Management Plan (EMP). The committee reviewed the work being undertaken by various departments as well as activities related to environmental protection and conservation.
During the meeting, Committee Chairman Shri Sanjay Sood appreciated the documentary/video prepared by the DFO, Rampur, highlighting the work carried out under the Catchment Area Treatment Plan. He directed other forest divisions and concerned departments to also prepare effective video documentation of activities related to environmental protection and development works. Such documentation, he said, would help in sharing information about the work being undertaken with a wider audience in an effective and transparent manner.
The Chairman also laid special emphasis on ensuring geo-tagged photography of works undertaken by the Forest Department and other project-related activities. The initiative is aimed at maintaining transparency in the implementation of works and facilitating the sharing of necessary information with local stakeholders. He directed the concerned officials to ensure proper documentation of the progress of activities related to environmental and forest conservation.
The meeting provided an important platform for reviewing the progress of environmental safeguards and strengthening coordination among the concerned departments and stakeholders. Emphasis was placed on systematic documentation, transparency, monitoring and effective implementation of environmental protection measures during the construction phase of the project.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Shri Jaswant Singh Kapoor, Project Head, Luhri Hydroelectric Project Stage-I, and Ms. Alka Jaiswal, Member Secretary, expressed their gratitude to Chairman Shri Sanjay Sood and all the members present at the meeting. They assured the committee that the suggestions and directions given by the Chairman during the meeting would be effectively implemented and complied with.
