 Ludhiana- Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal have informed that in view of Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19), a total of 708 samples have been sent for checking from district Ludhiana till date, out of which results of 577 samples have been received, while reports of 131 samples are awaited. He informed that out of total 708 samples, 548 samples have tested negative, while 17 samples were rejected. He informed that till date, a total of 12 patients have tested positive for COVID 19, out of which one each were from Jalandhar and Barnala. He clarified that till now, no fresh positive case of Novel Coronavirus have been reported in district Ludhiana, whereas one patient has already fully recovered and has been discharged from hospital.

Mr Agrawal today chaired a review meeting regarding COVID 19 at Bachat Bhawan, here, which was attended by senior district administration officials.

While speaking to media persons, the Deputy Commissioner informed that both Amarpura area of Ludhiana city and Chowkimann village of the district have been declared as hotspots by the District Administration. He said that as three positive cases of COVID 19 have come from Amarpura and two from Chowkimann, so as a precautionary measure, extensive sampling of the residents at these places is being carried out.

He informed that in Amarpura Mohalla, 854 people in 185 houses were surveyed, out of which one person was symptomatic and the resident has been shifted to Civil Hospital and the sample has been sent for testing. Whereas in Chowkimann and Gurre villages, 823 people in 153 houses and 1233 people in 295 houses respectively were surveyed and all persons were asymptomatic. He informed that this survey would continue in coming days as well.

He further informed that they had received some reports that some people were organising illegal sabzi Mandis in Sherpur and two other areas of the city. He said that the matter was investigated and the Ludhiana police have registered FIRs in this regard.

The Deputy Commissioner urged the residents to stay indoors and follow all directions of the Punjab government. He assured that the district administration and the health department is working 24X7 and all essential commodities are being delivered door to door in all parts of the district. He informed that Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ludhiana Mrs Kanwal Preet Kaur Brar have been deputed as nodal officer for distribution of langar/cooked food to the residents and ACA GLADA Mr Bhupinder Singh and ADCP Mr Harish Dyama are assisting her.

He assured that there is no shortage of funds when it comes to providing world class healthcare to the residents, so people should not panic.

He further informed that as a trial basis, some restaurants and bakeries of the city have been allowed to carry home delivery of eatables from 7:30 pm to 10 pm. He said that it would be reviewed after few days and if people continue to follow the directions of Punjab government, it would be continued, otherwise it would be stopped. He assured that the district administration is checking the quality and sanitisation standards of all such eateries on daily basis, so people should not panic, and if any person wants to apply for opening restaurant/bakery, they can apply online with the District Administration.
