Nathpa Jhakri Hydropower Station Wins Prestigious WSO-India Platinum Award for Outstanding Performance
1500 MW underground hydropower station recognised for excellence in workplace safety, occupational health and environmental protection
Jhakri, October : The 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydropower Station (NJHPS), operated by SJVN and recognised as the country's largest underground hydropower station, has achieved another significant milestone by receiving a prestigious national-level recognition for its outstanding performance in occupational health, safety and environmental management.
SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupendra Gupta informed that NJHPS has been honoured with the “Most Outstanding Performance – Platinum 5-Star Trophy and Certificate 2026” under the prestigious World Safety Organization (WSO) Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHS&E) Awards 2026. The recognition highlights the station's continued commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace safety, promoting occupational health and ensuring environmental protection.
The prestigious award was conferred following a comprehensive assessment process that included an on-site inspection conducted by an evaluator from World Safety Organization–India, followed by a final evaluation by the WSO jury. The recognition reflects the station's systematic approach towards workplace safety, its emphasis on safe working practices and its commitment to integrating safety into everyday operations.
Expressing his happiness over the achievement, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupendra Gupta said that the award was a testament to the sustained efforts, dedication and collective commitment of the NJHPS team. He emphasised that maintaining high safety standards at the workplace, ensuring occupational health and protecting the environment remained integral to the station's operational philosophy.
He further highlighted that making safety an inseparable part of daily operations was essential to achieving excellence in the hydropower sector. The recognition reflects the team's continued efforts to uphold established safety practices while maintaining a strong focus on occupational health and environmental responsibility.
The award was received on behalf of Nathpa Jhakri Hydropower Station by General Manager Soni Kumar at the 5th State-Level OHS&E Awards Ceremony organised by WSO-India in Mumbai on October 13, 2026.
