Consumer Awareness Programme on Telecom and Broadcasting Services to be Held in Ani on October 16
Ani, Kullu: The Himachal Consumer Protection Council, Shimla, in association with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), will organize a one-day Consumer Awareness Programme on October 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Government College Ani in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The programme aims to create greater awareness among consumers about their rights in the telecom and broadcasting sectors, the available grievance redressal mechanism, and the prescribed quality standards for various services.
Providing information about the programme, Joginder Kanwar, President of the Himachal Consumer Protection Council, and Ranjit Singh Dhiman, Vice-President of the Council, jointly said that in today’s digital and modern era, telecommunication and entertainment services have become an essential part of everyday life. With the increasing dependence on mobile, internet and cable services, it is important for consumers to be aware of their rights as well as the mechanisms available for resolving service-related complaints.
They said that during the awareness programme, detailed information will be provided about the three-tier grievance redressal mechanism available to consumers for issues related to mobile, internet and cable services. Discussions will also focus on important consumer concerns such as call drops, network coverage, internet speed and billing disputes, along with the relevant guidelines issued by TRAI.
The Council representatives said that the primary objective of the programme is to empower consumers with the necessary information so that they can use telecommunication and broadcasting services in a safe, informed and responsible manner. Awareness about consumer rights and complaint redressal procedures can help people address service-related problems more effectively and seek appropriate remedies when required.
Representatives of telephone companies operating in Himachal Pradesh will also participate in the awareness camp. This will provide consumers with an opportunity to directly interact with service providers and raise their questions and concerns. At the conclusion of the programme, participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions directly to the representatives and seek clarification regarding their individual problems and queries.
The President and Vice-President of the Himachal Consumer Protection Council have appealed to residents of Ani and adjoining areas, along with citizens, youth, women and local public representatives, to participate in the programme in large numbers. They said that the initiative is being organized entirely in the public interest and participation in the programme is completely free of cost.
The Council expressed hope that the awareness programme will help strengthen consumer awareness at the grassroots level and enable citizens to better understand their rights, available complaint mechanisms and the quality standards applicable to telecom and broadcasting services.
