Luheri Hydroelectric Project Stage-I Concludes ‘Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-2026’ Campaign

Sanitation Volunteers Honoured on Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas; ‘Waste to Wealth–Kabाड़ se Jugaad’ Competition Highlights Creativity and Sustainable Waste Management

Luheri, October 2: In accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the Corporate Headquarters, Luheri Hydroelectric Project Stage-I organised the “Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-2026” campaign from September 17 to October 2, 2026. The campaign concluded today on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas, after a series of activities aimed at promoting public awareness, community participation in cleanliness, reduction in the use of plastic, effective waste management and environmental conservation.

Throughout the campaign, various activities were organised with the objective of creating greater awareness about cleanliness and encouraging active participation among employees and stakeholders. The initiatives also focused on promoting responsible waste disposal, reducing dependence on plastic and strengthening the message of environmental protection as an integral part of everyday life.

At the concluding ceremony, Project Head of Luheri Hydroelectric Project Stage-I, Er. Jaswant Singh Kapoor, honoured the sanitation volunteers who made active and dedicated contributions towards the successful implementation of the campaign. He appreciated the efforts made by the sanitation volunteers as well as the entire project team and acknowledged their active participation in making the campaign meaningful and effective.

As part of the campaign, a special “Waste to Wealth–Kabाड़ se Jugaad” competition was also organised for the outsourced employees working at the project. The competition provided participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity by transforming domestic and discarded waste materials into useful and innovative products.

The participants displayed considerable creativity and imagination by giving a new and productive purpose to materials that would otherwise have been treated as waste. Their efforts highlighted the importance of reusing waste materials and demonstrated how creativity can contribute to better waste management and environmental protection.

The Project Head and the Heads of various departments present on the occasion appreciated the creative works presented by the participants. Along with the winners of the competition, all participants were also rewarded in recognition of their enthusiasm, participation and contribution towards the campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Er. Jaswant Singh Kapoor, Project Head, said that Mahatma Gandhi placed special emphasis not only on political cleanliness but also on personal cleanliness and considered cleanliness to be the foundation of a healthy and strong society. He called upon the entire project team and the sanitation volunteers present at the event to ensure that cleanliness does not remain confined merely to a fortnight or a particular campaign.

He emphasised that cleanliness should instead become an integral part of one’s behaviour, values and lifestyle. According to him, sustained efforts and responsible individual practices are essential for creating a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally conscious society.

He further stated that every individual has an important role to play in creating a clean and healthy environment. By adopting cleanliness, proper waste disposal, reduced use of plastic and environmental conservation as part of our daily lives, the resolve towards cleanliness can be carried forward continuously and effectively.

The concluding programme also reinforced the message that cleanliness is not merely a campaign-related responsibility but a collective social commitment. Active public participation, responsible waste management and environmentally conscious practices can together contribute significantly towards building a cleaner and healthier environment.

On the occasion, Heads of various departments, officers and employees of the project, along with sanitation volunteers, were present. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to continue promoting cleanliness, public participation, responsible waste management and environmental conservation beyond the campaign period.
